Welcome to 'Adventures in Witnessing' Volume One.

Sharing the message of God's amazing love with others is one of the most exciting endeavors of the Christian faith. In this series of posts, I will be sharing insights on how to make the most of our witnessing encounters. Jesus commissions us to “Preach the Gospel." Proclaiming the goodness of God was the number one priority of the disciples and should be ours as well.

Whether you prefer friendship evangelism or street evangelism, the primary goal of any conversation should be ‘The Gospel of Jesus’. Paul wrote “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes… (Romans 1:16).

It’s so simple and yet, the most powerful words that can be spoken to someone. So, how do we communicate what Paul describes as “the power of God to salvation”? The Gospel can be easily presented in five steps.

1. God created man in His own image.

2. Man disobeys God bringing sin and death into the world separating man from God.

3. God sends His Son Jesus into the world. Jesus walks among us without breaking any of God's commandments, teaching us the Truth. Jesus dies on a cross as the perfect sacrifice for our sins, paying the price for our disobedience. He was buried and rose from the dead on the third day.

4. By turning away from sin and following Jesus man can be reconciled back to God for eternity.

5. By rejecting God's gift of mercy found in Jesus, man is eternally separated from God, going to a place of anguish.

Now that you see how easy it can be, let me share some words of encouragement before we look at ways to engage others.

Everyone plays a part in leading someone to Christ. Look at 1Corinthians 3:6-8 ‘I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. Now he who plants and he who waters are one, and each one will receive his own reward according to his own labor.’ Anytime you remind someone about God by inviting them to Church, handing them a Gospel tract or asking if they have a prayer need you are directing them to the Savior. It’s a wonderful feeling to be there when someone repents of their sin and makes a commitment to follow Jesus, but know that God used every person that reached out to them before they came to that place of faith. Every effort you make to witness is not in vain.

Your Personal Testimony:
Sharing your own story of how you came to faith is a great way to share the Gospel. Friends, family members and co-workers are more often than not very eager to hear about your life. Just ask "Would it be ok if I shared something about my personal life with you?" Tell them about your life before Christ, how you came to faith in Jesus and what your life is like now. At the point you tell them how you came to faith is a great place to share the Gospel. For example, say "...and that's when I realized I was a sinner, guilty of breaking God's laws but thankfully God sent His son Jesus to die on the cross and pay the price for me..." Write down your testimony and share it on social media.

Start sharing your story and just wait and see how many people you encourage.

Stay tuned for more evangelism tips in the next volume of 'Adventures in Witnessing'.
